Job Summary

The Circulation Librarian is responsible for providing circulation and customer services and supporting the Library’s daily operations. The position also provides professional research assistance to students, researchers, faculty members, and other Library users.

Duties and Responsibilities

Circulation and Customer Services

  • Provide circulation services, including checking library materials in and out, renewals, reservations, and user account management.
  • Register users and maintain accurate patron records in the library system.
  • Collect overdue fines and other Library charges in accordance with Library regulations.
  • Send overdue notices and follow up on overdue or lost materials.
  • Respond to user inquiries and provide information about Library resources, facilities, services, and regulations.
  • Assist users in locating library materials and using the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC).
  • Support photocopying, printing, scanning, and other Library services.
  • Shelve and organize library materials and ensure that collections are maintained in proper order.
  • Assist with opening, closing, and other daily Library operations.

Research and Information Support

  • Assist students, researchers, and faculty members with literature searches and research inquiries.
  • Guide users in accessing and using scholarly databases, electronic journals, e-books, and other electronic resources.
  • Provide basic guidance on search strategies, citation tools, information literacy, and the responsible use of information.
  • Support Library orientation, database training, and research-support activities.
  • Assist with the digitization of AIT publications and the management of digital content and metadata in the AIT Institutional Repository.
  • Perform other duties related to Library services and operations as assigned by the Director.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Library and Information Science, Information Studies, Information Management, or a related field.

Experience

  • Experience in an academic or research library would be an advantage.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Basic knowledge of circulation services, reference and research assistance, electronic resources, and academic databases.
  • Ability to assist users with literature searches and research-related inquiries.
  • Good computer skills and knowledge of library automation systems and metadata standards.
  • Good command of written and spoken English.
  • Service-minded, responsible, and willing to learn new technologies.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to operate computers and office equipment.
  • Ability to lift, push, or move book trucks and library materials.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings and weekends when required.
