1. General Summary

The Senior Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the overall accounting operations of the Institute, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, general ledger, financial reporting, and month-end/year-end closing processes. The position ensures the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial records and reports in compliance with institutional policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.

The incumbent plays a key leadership role in strengthening internal controls, improving accounting processes and systems, supporting audit and compliance activities, and providing financial analysis and management reporting to support operational and strategic decision-making. The role also supervises and develops accounting staff to ensure efficient and effective accounting operations across AIT Main and AITCV.

2. Functions & Duties

  • Lead and manage the Accounting team covering Accounts Receivable (A/R), Accounts Payable (A/P), General Ledger (GL), Monthly Closing, and Payroll functions.
  • Ensure effective internal controls and proper implementation of financial policies, procedures, and accounting systems.
  • Supervise and coordinate accounting operations for AIT Main and AITCV, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, payroll, and related accounting activities.
  • Ensure accounting records are accurately prepared and maintained in accordance with institutional accounting policies, chart of accounts, applicable accounting standards, and related financial regulations.
  • Ensure reconciliation of subsidiary ledgers with the general ledger and oversee monthly reconciliation of balance sheet accounts and other accounting analyses.
  • Lead and coordinate month-end and year-end closing processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Supervise the preparation and issuance of financial statements, balance sheets, income statements, and management reports.
  • Provide financial analysis, expense analysis, and other management reports to support operational and strategic decision-making.
  • Coordinate and support internal and external audit activities, including preparation of audit schedules, supporting documents, and responses to audit queries.
  • Ensure proper maintenance and documentation of accounting records and supporting documents.
  • Review and approve accounting transactions and financial documents, including payment requests, journal vouchers, internal charges, posting batches, account expiry requests, online finance forms, online sponsor fund forms, online transfers, and related financial approvals in accordance with delegated authority.
  • Sign cheques and authorize financial transactions in compliance with institutional policies and approval authority.
  • Advise on the maintenance and integrity of the Budget Master File and related accounting structures.
  • Design, develop, and enhance Financial Statement Generator (FSG) reports and other management reports to meet institutional and management requirements.
  • Support finance system enhancement initiatives, digitalization projects, and ERP implementation or improvement activities.
  • Coordinate with schools, centers, administrative units, donors, auditors, banks, and other stakeholders regarding accounting and financial matters.
  • Lead, coach, and develop accounting staff to enhance team performance, operational efficiency, and professional growth. 

3. Qualifications & Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; Master’s degree is an advantage.
  • Professional accounting certification (e.g., CPA) is preferred.
  • Minimum 8–10 years of progressive experience in accounting and financial management, including supervisory experience.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, internal controls, and audit processes.
  • Experience with ERP/accounting systems and financial reporting tools.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Good leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
