Application is invited for the position of Assistant Professor in Public Policy with the focus on development policy and sustainability economics at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Pathumthani, Thailand. AIT is an international, non-profit post- graduate institution, promoting technological change and sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region through higher learning focusing on critical global issues through research and outreach capacity development. Establish in 1959, AIT became a leading regional institution actively working with public and private sector partners throughout the region and with some of the top universities in the world. The Institute offers Master and Doctoral degrees, a diploma and certificate program in interdisciplinary studies to students from different disciplines such as sociology, geography, economics, engineering, science, planning and management, and serves over 27,000 students from Asia and beyond. Its faculty members and students composes of more than 40 different nationalities and ethnic backgrounds from a unique international community in the institute’s residential campus situated 42 Kilometers north Bangkok. The Public Policy academic program (PPP) is offered under the Faculty of Public Policy (FPP). The academic program aims to prepare the post graduate students with expertise in policy analysis, regulatory design, public finance, governance and institutional reform, stakeholder engagement, and policy impact assessment across key policy domains, including technology, environment, climate change, development, social policy, and economic governance, etc. |
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Teach graduate level classes (Master and Doctoral)
- Engage in thesis research supervision of Master and Doctoral students
- Develop research papers leading to publications on professional journal
- Take initiative in bringing sponsored research projects
- Develop and conduct public PPP related short courses, workshops and customized training programs
- Develop cooperative links with other study areas for maintaining the competitive edge of PPP in the region
- Carry out consultancy and outreach activities
- Assist in conducting training/workshop and other human resource development activities supported by AIT or international/national agencies, and
- Perform academic duties assigned by the school/ institute.
Qualifications:
- The applicant should have a PhD in Public Policy or a closely related field, such as economics, political science, social sciences, political economy, interdisciplinary studies, etc., and should have demonstrated research interest and experience in public policy–related fields, particularly in development policy and sustainability economics from reputed universities.
- Should have strong knowledge of statistics and its applications; knowledge of mixed-methods research approaches and qualitative analytical techniques is an advantage.
- S/he should be able to teach three or four courses from the core foundation courses, such as Policy Design and Delivery, The Politics of Policymaking, Law and Public Policy, Policy Analysis Tools and Methods, Economics for Public Policy and Public Administration; and the elective courses, such as Policy for Digital Transformation; Digital Economy Policy and Regulation; Environmental and Climate Policy; Technology, Infrastructure, and Innovation Policy; Development and Labour Economics, etc. as well as other relevant courses aligned with the Public Policy Program (PPP) requirements and the candidate’s area of specialization.
- Should have a proven track record of published research in relevant fields in international refereed journals.
- Should possess relevant experience and competence in teaching and student supervision at graduate level with excellent oral and written communication skills in English
- Experience in obtaining research grants is highly desirable
- Experience in working in government/ non-government/ international organizations is an advantage.
- Previous exposure to the problems and prospects in the Asian Region in addition to well established link with donors and research partners will be an added advantage.

Appointment: The appointment will be at the rank of an Assistant Professor. The initial appointment is normally for two years and is renewable based on performance. The salary offered to the successful candidate is regionally competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Additional benefits include provident, air fare for self and direct dependents and grant for settlement, education subsidy for dependent children, and medical benefit as per institute’s policy and procedure. It is also possible to earn an additional income by carrying out sponsored research projects and consulting services. Application procedure: The application deadline is on 31 Mar 2026.
