The Department of Food, Agriculture and Bioresources (DFAB), School of Environment, Resources and Development (SERD) is implementing a long-term research Project (Agro-Met) supported by the Regional Integrated Multi-Hazard Early Warning System for Africa and Asia (RIMES) with the objective to establish collaboration for enhancing agro-meteorological early warning services in RIMES member countries.

1. Duties/Responsibilities

The Project Coordinator is expected to support the overall coordination of the Agro-Met Project, and track and monitor the progress of the components and activities. The work will be primarily focused on the activities related to the Work Packages assigned to the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT). The Project Coordinator will work under the direct supervision of Dr. Avishek Datta from AIT and in close collaboration with Dr. Itesh Dash from RIMES. Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Work closely with the Principal Investigator of the project, and other members of the project team to coordinate all activities for smooth and timely implementation of the project
  • Maintain a project management calendar and monitor the progress of project implementation work plan, and deliverable schedules
  • Organize, attend, and participate in stakeholder meetings
  • Coordinate with the responsible personnel of the National Meteorological and Hydrological Service in the South Asia region to organize virtual and face-to-face meetings of the working groups and the executive council
  • Participate in discussions, meetings, and consultations with the National Meteorological and Hydrological Service
  • Follow-up and coordinate with working group members, experts, and resource persons for inputs required for the preparation of working-papers and training module development
  • Schedule, facilitate, and organize project-related training programs
  • Coordinate with project team members to collect inputs for report writing that includes periodic quarterly and annual reports
  • Other relevant work for the project as assigned by the Principal Investigator of the project, and other members of the project team

2. Qualification

  • Master degree or equivalent in Agricultural Systems, Agricultural Science, Agricultural Engineering, Agronomy or similar disciplines with an experience of Agricultural Meteorology and/or climate-related study is required

3. Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • Ability to work in a multi-country and multicultural environments involving extensive interaction/coordination with senior government officials
  • Excellent analytical skills and problem-solving ability
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English language
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate ideas, write precisely and clearly
  • Proficient in preparing presentation materials, communication materials, and drafting reports
  • Knowledge on statistical tools, GIS, graphical software is an advantage
  • Proficient in handling Microsoft Office
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Excellent management skills
  • Experience in organizing workshops and developing training courses is an added advantage
  • Ability to work under time pressure and in an international multicultural environment

4. Remuneration

  • Salary and benefits of AIT are competitive compared with other regional organizations

5. Contract Duration

  • The contract will be for an initial period of 2-year subjected to an annual performance review. The contract would likely to be extended beyond the 2-year period depending on the satisfactory performance of the candidate
