AIT invites applications for a faculty position at Assistant Professor Level in the Aquaculture and Aquatic Resources Management (AARM) Field of Study of the School of Environment, Resources and Development (SERD)at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Pathumthani, Thailand.

AIT is an autonomous, non-profit, international post-graduate institution offering Certificate, Diploma, Master’s and Doctoral degree programs in engineering, science, technology, and planning and management and it serves over 2,000 students from many countries across Asia and beyond. Teaching faculty, researchers, staff and students from more than 40 countries form a unique international community on the Institute’s 400 acres, beautifully landscaped residential campus, situated 42 km north of Bangkok.

The School of Environment, Resources and Development (SERD) established in 1993 by amalgamating Divisions of Agriculture and Food Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Human Settlements Development and Energy Technology. SERD is now composed of twelve Fields of Study (FoS). Aquaculture and Aquatic Resources Management (AARM) Fields of study, whichwas established in 1981,has three areas of specialization, namely: (1) Aquaculture Technology, (2) Aquatic Resources Management, and (3) Integrated Coastal Management. Since 1981, over 500 students have graduated from AARM and our alumni are now in influential positions throughout the Asian region.

Qualifications:

AARM seeks to hire an Assistant or Associate Professor with the following qualifications:

  • Has a doctoral degree in aquaculture/ aquatic ecology with at least 3 years of field experience (having experience in costal management is an added advantage)
  • A strong commitment to teaching and research
  • A proven teaching and research record in aquaculture
  • A good publication record in international journals, and
  • The track record and aptitude to establish and maintain a dynamic research and outreach programs in aquaculture or integrated coastal management or aquatic resources management

Duties and Responsibilities:

The successful candidate is to develop and teach postgraduate courses in aquaculture such as Coastal Aquaculture, Aquaculture Seed Production, Aquaculture Planning and Management, Aquaculture Water quality Management, Analytical Techniques in Aquaculture and Aquaculture Business Management. The candidate is also expected to teach other related courses such as Marine,Coastal Ecosystems and Principles of Integrated Coastal Management and aquatic resources management, and supervise Master’s and Doctoral students, conduct research in aquaculture and aquatic resources management, and carry out consultancy and outreach activities. In addition, the candidate assists in the conduct of training programs, workshops, and other human resource development activities supported by AIT or international or national agencies. The selected candidate is to join the institute at the start of July 2014 and start teaching in August 2014 semester.

Benefits:

The contract period is initially two years subject to renewal. The salary is commensurate with academic merits and experience in teaching and research.
